Redhill School, A Specialist Language College - Now in Phase 2

OFSTED REPORT FOR LANGUAGES - DECEMBER 2008

We achieved re-designation as a Specialist Language College in September 2007.

This has created many opportunities for professional development, research and partnerships with industry, commerce, primary and secondary schools, further and higher education and the wider community.

Redhill is at the forefront in supporting both the Primary Languages Strategy and the Secondary Languages Strategy in Dudley, through SLNs (Strategic Learning Networks). We employ 3 part-time language specialists to support language development in primary schools.

Mrs Savidge is our Primary Languages Co-ordinator. She supports primary schools by delivering training, team teaching, demonstration lessons and giving advice and support in developing resources, schemes of work etc. We have two other part-time specialists to support primary schools across the Local Authority with MFL teaching: Mrs Jones and Mrs Prior.

Redhill continues to uphold the slogan 'Languages for all, languages for life'. We run evening classes for adults to learn French, German and Spanish, from September 2008, for beginners, improvers and for those who wish to take the language to a higher level, up to a maximum of four years.

We have links with some local businesses and work closely with Dudley's Education and Business Partnership. We are always keen to develop new links with local business, particularly where there is an international dimension to the company. If you are interested in working with us, please contact the Language College Director, Martyn Orton.

Over recent years, we have engaged in projects with Dudley Tourism, the Copthorne Hotel, French Connection Restaurant in Stourbridge and Sturge Industries. We promote the value of languages in the work place and emphasise this in our 'Languages for Work' module which we run with Year 9 pupils each spring.
